Like the idea of drill-free dentistry? Air abrasion can be used for lots of dental procedures. It is one the techniques we use to remove dental decay from your teeth.
What are the advantages?
Compared with the traditional drills, the advantages are:
- Air abrasion generates no heat, pressure, or vibration.
- It sometimes reduces the need for anesthesia, particularly if the cavity is small.
- It leaves more of the healthy tooth tissue behind.
- In turn reduces the risk of fracturing and chipping of the tooth, which means a longer lasting filling.
- So, the procedure is simple, although it may take slightly longer than traditional drilling.
Air abrasion can also be used to cement restorations on teeth. Composite/porcelain repairs, Orthodontic bracket etching, Cleaning and polishing teeth and removing tea/tobacco staining.
We currently use the Velopex machine.
