At Bow Lane, we are dedicated to becoming the most Eco-friendly dental practice in London. From carbon offsetting to recycling food waste, ethical is our middle name. Our team, work around the clock to provide the most eco-friendly and sustainable dental care possible.
In 2019 we became carbon neutral and we’ve been awarded Chairmans Cup for The London Clean City Awards Scheme. For us, every day is Earth Day. We strive to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever and wherever possible.
Earth Day, also known as International Mother Earth day, is celebrated each year on April 22. Each year, billions of people across the globe join together to raise awareness about environmental protection. This global event was first celebrated in the United States on April 22, 1970. Today around 1 billion people in 193 countries take part in Earth Day and resolve to protect the environment and biodiversity.
This event hopes to encourage change to help combat the climate crisis and create a zero-carbon future.
Here at Bow Lane Dental in Central London, we have made some sustainable changes to make sure we stay as Eco-friendly as possible. With so many different factors impacting the environment on a daily basis, it’s becoming more apparent that we need to take more action to look after our planet. We’ve put lots of practices in place to make sure we are doing our bit to save the planet.
Want to recycle your old toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes or boxes of floss? We are proud to have a recycling box specifically for recycling your oral hygiene products. Meet the Terracycle UK Zero Waste Box. You don’t even have to be a Bow Lane patient to pop in and drop them off! You can recycle anything from empty toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes to Tepe UK inter-dental brushes. Many people ask “are Invisalign recyclable?’ and we’re pleased to say you can also drop off your old Invisalign aligners in our recycling box. Find out more here.
Sustainable dental products are a key part of running an eco-friendly dental practice. We are continuously working to make more and more of our products sustainable; below we detail the progression we are making towards our goal.
One of our latest changes in the practice has been to ditch plastic cups. We’ve now opted for a plant-based cup that is lightweight, strong and has a low carbon footprint. The sustainable cups are fully recyclable and can also be composted in just 120 days! You can read more about them here.
We also offer recyclable coffee cups in our reception waiting area, and use recycled coffee pods too!
Our Dentist Stewart Beggs discovered another amazing find – environmentally friendly suction tubes. These suction tubes are developed to save and reduce the use of fossil resources and greenhouse gas emissions.
We've swapped our toilet roll for an Eco-friendly, recycled version. The toilet paper is made WITHOUT trees and 50% of profits go to help build toilets for people who need them.
The company do not use any inks or scents. According to their website, more people in the world have mobile phones than toilets. Think about that next time you’re texting on the loo! You can find out more about the brand by clicking here.
We’ve been recognised for our recycling efforts numerous times, and have been awarded Platinum status for the Clean City Award for two consecutive years, which is a big step to making us a fully eco-friendly dental practice. As well as this we won the Chairman’s Cup for the Clean city awards in February 2020!
Working together with Carbon Foot Print, we plant an average per year of 46 trees in the South East region of the UK thereby offsetting carbon emissions, helping to prevent climate change and creating space for wildlife.
We have teamed up with rePurpose Global, who help offset plastic for hundreds of companies around the world. Why not try their plastic footprint calculator to see how much plastic you could be wasting and find out how you can improve your usage. They help reduce virgin plastic use across our supply chain through customized tools, strategy sessions, and their global network of packaging innovators.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
