Our dental clinic is open and you can read our COVID-safe procedures here.
We have unfortunately had to temporarily stop our beauty treatments in line with Government regulations. All existing appointments will be rescheduled.
Composite bonding is a super minimally invasive cosmetic treatment where composite resin (white filling material), is shaped and moulded onto your teeth to give the appearance of a straighter, whiter smile. It can be used as a cosmetic solution for chipped teeth, gapped teeth and staining in both teeth and fillings.
It also doesn't involve damage or cutting down of the teeth. The bonding treatment is completed in a single appointment, then we review the treatment 1-2 weeks later to make sure you are 100% happy with the result.
Composite resin bonding isn't for everyone. If your smile is crooked as the result of an over or underbite, this treatment won't serve to correct it. In these cases, straightening the teeth with Invisalign before can give a better result. Bonding is primarily for those who seek a cosmetic solution for teeth that are otherwise healthy and well aligned.
At the initial cosmetic consultation, we discuss what alterations you wish to make and we will carry out a direct mock-up on your teeth to show you what the new shapes would look like. This is a great way to have a sneak peek of what the final result would look like.
During the bonding appointment we carefully handcraft and layer the composite to mimic the shapes and textures of your natural teeth as closely as possible. Bonding is a pain free treatment and we don’t need any aesthetic or injections to carry this out. Because the process involves a high level of technique for a natural shape and finish, it's best to work with a dentist who has a lot experience in this area.
Composite bonding requires maintenance so you'll need to see your dentist for regular check-ups and hygienist visits. The surface may need re-polishing to maintain the lustre and shine and like natural teeth can be prone to chipping and staining. It is OK to eat normal food such as apples, but you should avoid using teeth as tools to open packets or biting fingernails as this will cause additional wear and chipping to the bonding and natural teeth.
If you're interested in achieving a brighter smile, composite resin bonding is a great option. Be sure to take care of your other oral necessities first, to ensure your natural smile is healthy inside and out.
It generally lasts for 5-7 years before it needs to be replaced. For people who grind their teeth or have bad habits like biting fingernails and chewing pens, it will have a shorter lifespan. Composite bonding is easy to repair if it chips and straightforward to replace when it comes to the end of its lifespan. For a longer lasting alternative, non-invasive porcelain veneers are a great option if you are suitable. You can find out more about them here.
