The Bow Lane team are shocked by the number of children every day who are having teeth removed due to tooth decay. Over 100 children in the UK are having teeth pulled every day. Dental disease is PREVENTABLE.James and his team are working with the corporation of London to educate under 5’s in the borough on healthy eating and oral care. Some of whom have never seen a dentist before. We plan to offer a FREE oral health screen to EVERY child under 5 in the corporation of London.
Our key messages:
- Always supervise your children's brushing until they are 7 years old.
- Teach them to spit and do NOT rinse after brushing. This stops washing the protective Fluoride away.
- Always use a Fluoride toothpaste with 1,000 parts per million (ppm) up to age three. From three years up they can use a regular adult toothpaste.
- Brushing should be done for two minutes in the morning and evening.
- We recommend you bring your child to the dentist from about 18 months old.
- Limit snacks between meals, especially sugary or fizzy drinks.
- Tooth decay is mainly caused by how often sugar is eaten or drunk, not the amount of sugar or acid in the diet.
- Look at sugar content on the labels. A new campaign called SugarWise is helping to make it easier for parents to understand labels.
Even Superman needs his teeth checked! The Bow Lane team visited the Barbican library today to give diet and oral health advice to a toddler group. Rhymetime was great fun for everyone. Everyone who had their teeth checked had a goody bag with stickers, toothpaste and toothbrush. Many thanks to Henry Schein for helping support us.
